It’s been said before that “the only constant in life is change.” In many cases, this is a good thing-change usually means that a person is growing into a more mature version of themselves, moving away from a formerly bad situation into a better one, or forcing someone to rise to a higher level of achievement. Even in the fitness world change is important; after all, if your body is staying the same from exercise, then what’s the point!

However, change can be a bad thing when your gym or trainer forces you to conform around them. Maybe you’ve experienced this in the past in one way or another, because you see it all the time. Gyms are constantly changing ownership, or closing down altogether, leaving you to have to look for another option. Or, perhaps you’ve had a trainer that will only give you exercises that fit their personal style, or even skillset, instead of creating a program for you that meets your needs, and not just what they want to do.

The bottom line is this: your gym/trainer should always be proving to you that YOU COME FIRST. When a gym changes ownership, it shows that the business is more important than the person. When a trainer only trains their clients in one format, they are saying that their laziness to work hard to service you is more important than you reaching your goals.

So stay ALERT people! Make sure that you are being taken care of at all times, and if you sense that you aren’t, seek a change! Great gyms, and even better trainers, are out there…you just need to know where to look ;)
