The end of the year is many things! Time for celebration, ceremony and family time well spent. It’s a time to indulge with those we love, forget about work, obligations, and disciplines and just enjoy the festivities with those we love!

However, it is very definitely a time of temptation; an insidious opportunity for us to fall off the fitness rails and slip into a precarious position of self-indulgence, complacency and sloth.

But there is hope! We can help give you the tools and tricks necessary to keep you on-track (for the most part, ha) and make sure that the two weeks between Christmas and New Year don’t destroy a whole year’s worth of fitness progress:

  • Find time to move - go for a walk; if you are staying in a hotel, hit the gym, go swimming
  • Fill up on the veggie tray before dinner – eating fiber helps curb your appetite and prevents overeating
  • Find a gym – a lot of commercial fitness gyms, especially ones that are independently owned, will offer day passes for out-of-town guests
  • Alcohol – “keep it clear” (the less colorful the booze, the less sugar content, the less empty calories), stay away from special Christmas cocktails like spiked egg nog and other rich mixed drinks (the extra calories add up!)
  • HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE – water helps clear out a night of drinking, helps with digestion, and just makes the system work optimally. Drink as much water as much as possible, especially if you are travelling out of town!

If you find yourself in a position to get in a basic resistance workout, follow this simple routine:

                3 sets x 15 reps

                Push ups

                Goblet squat

                1-arm row

                Cardio (5min)

                Overhead press

                Pulldown

                Dumbbell deadlift
